The principles rules of dimensioning.

I am fanatic about rules , I'll try always to be attentive during dimensioning so I publish some basic rules in dimensioning.

1. Each feature of an object is dimensioned once and onlyonce.

2. Dimensions should be selected to suit the function of theobject.

3. Dimensions should be placed in the most descriptive viewof the feature being dimensioned.

4. Dimensions should specify only the size of a feature. Themanufacturing method should only be specified if it is a mandatory designrequirement.

5. Angles shown on drawings as right angles are assumed to be90 degrees unless otherwise specified, and they need not be dimensioned.

6. Dimensions should be located outside the boundaries of theobject whenever possible.

7. Dimension lines should be aligned and grouped wherepossible to promote clarity and uniform appearance.

8. Crossed dimension lines should be avoided wheneverpossible. When dimension lines must cross, they should be unbroken.

9. The space between the first dimension line and the objectshould be at least 3/8 inch (10 mm).

The space between dimension lines should be at least 1/4 inch(6 mm).

10. There should be a visible gap between the object and theorigin of an extension line.

11. Extension lines should extend 1/8 inch (3 mm) beyond thelast dimension line.

12. Extension lines should be broken if they cross or areclose to arrowheads.

13. Leader lines used to dimension circles or arcs should beradial.

14. Dimensions should be oriented to be read from the bottomof the drawing.

15. Diameters are dimensioned with a numerical value precededby the diameter symbol.

16. Concentric circles should be dimensioned in alongitudinal view whenever possible.

17. Radii are dimensioned with a numerical value preceded bythe radius symbol.

18. When a dimension is given to the center of an arc orradius, a small cross is shown at the center.

19. The depth of a blind hole may be specified in a note. Thedepth is measured from the surface of the object to the deepest point where thehole still measures a full diameter in width.

20. Counterbored, spotfaced, or countersunk holes should bespecified in a note.

First you should draw this detail specified upper. To draw this I will help you with a step .

Draw three Circles with their radius and respect distances of centers.

Now use Trim command to cut unless entity .Ok you arrived to the first wing maybe can I call so.

With Mirror must draw figure as below.

Again use Trim command to cut and shapping as below.

Using Array Command polar option with center point in the center of small arc and set 3 to field of total number items and specify 360 degree angle .

Then delete and cut objects that you no need .

You will take a good tribal shape just this.

What Are Some Basic Traits of a Good CAD Drafter?

Are you new to CAD or a CAD beginner, and have ever thought to yourself, “What are some basic traits of a good CAD drafter?” If yes, then this is the article for you!

To answer this question let’s look at that www.bls.gov website, which states that “Drafters prepare technical drawings and plans, which are used by production and construction workers to build everything from microchips to skyscrapers.” As you can see, this statement is specific, yet also broad. It is specific in that it states that “Drafters prepare technical drawings and plans…”, and it is broad in that it states “…to build everything from microchips to skyscrapers.”

From the statement above it can be understood that a good CAD Drafter would need to be technically minded. He’d have to have problem solving abilities, the kind which are generally associated with math or being able to visualize things in three dimensions.

It can also be understood from the BLS statement that a good CAD Drafter would have to have familiarity with a specific industry, and be able to translate that knowledge into creating drawings that would be useful to production or construction workers.

In addition to the traits already mentioned, a good CAD Drafter would be able to think in terms of the “big picture”. He’d be able to understand that his job would just be a part in creating an product. This awareness would lead him to create more useful drawings.

Lastly, a good CAD Drafter would have to be proficient in the CAD software of his industry.

To summarize, a good CAD Drafter would be one that is technically minded, has industry specific knowledge, could think in terms of the “big picture”, and would be proficient in the CAD software of his industry. If this doesn’t describe you, don’t fret. Everyone starts somewhere, and these could be your goals for becoming a good CAD Drafter! It’s been said that “nothing comes without effort”!!

Welcome AutoCAD 2012 .

The next release of AutoCAD is in development & codenamed “Ironman”.

I will write very short because haven't see yet what's inside in release 2012.

It came with Autodesk Inventor Fusion Technology.

Using Fillet Command to draw arc's with large Radius

When using fillet command need to specify size Radius but here I'tell Fillet vs Circle ( TTR option)

Look the example.

We construct 2 arc with a r= 200 and 2 r= 48 .Drawing of them can realise using circle --> TTR option then trim unavailable entities.So we this option work with some commands and a little bit time .

Go to Fillet command icon on Draw toolbar or use any other method.



Command: _FILLET

Current settings: Mode = TRIM, Radius = 0.0000

Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]: r
Specify fillet radius <0.0000>: 200 enter

Click 2 circles and just created arc required .

In this way drawing 3 arcs required as Fig below.

Offset Multiple items.

In this tutorial we'll learn How to offsetting multiple items with just clicking of mouse using Multiple Option to the Offset Command.

Drawing our object in our case draw a line .Type offset Command or go to Modify toolbar and click offset.See below.

Give offset distance ex 2 and then select the line .
When you are asking "Specify Point on side to offset or [Exit/Multiple/Undo ..] :just type m
Now you click more one time how do you want below or up to take more line just as in figure .

How to change all Text In Uppercase & Lowercase on AutoCAD.

Eh this feature it is especially on AutoCAD even not easily in word 2003 .

This tutorial is short but clear.

Click Multiline text icon on draw toolbar and write your words that you need.

Select them and type icon as in fig below.

Click ok

So you will see that all are changed.

Publishing your drawing as *.PDF in AutoCAD 2010

One of new feature of AutoCAD 2010 is publishing drawings in PDF format.

Let's start how we can do it.

In command line type: publishing than enter

See about the image below choose pdf in publish to.

Choose your drawing in our case I have choose Ex16-15MM-Model just as in image below.

You see in the status menu we have no errors ok but layouts I have no activations.

Click publish button and we see our drawing in pdf.

Naturaly if we have no activation layouts we have publishing blank sheets.

AutoCAD 2010 is soon to be released and shipped on Tuesday, 24 March 2009.

What I say a good job is done about Parametric Drawing .

Powerful new parametric drawing functionality in AutoCAD 2010 enables you to dramatically increase productivity by constraining drawing objects based on design intent. Geometric and dimensional constraints help ensure that specific relationships and measurements remain persistent even as objects are modified. The tools for creating and managing geometric and dimensional constraints are available on the Parametric ribbontab, which is automatically displayed in the 2D Drafting and Annotation workspace.

So what you see this tool is more availble for a good drafting and accuracy.
Alaways it apply in PLM Softwers and 3D modeling.
Check the Constraint settings.

How to create a text in 3D by AutoCAD 2008.

First we choose font’s style.In this tutorial it is Times New Roman .

With text command and default height ( 2.5 ) we write 3D TEXT and follow steps as below :

Go to Standard Menu ►Express ► Explode Text then we select the text.See image below.

In command window type:Isolines and a give a value = 24 for a better performance in 3D.

Then use command Extrude and select text give a height value (ex:5 for this case) and choose a your view point desire .

See the image below for an example.

After this just see it you have created a text in 3D .If you want to choose a better looking rendering it.

Books I recommend to became a harder in Mechanical Engineering Drafting.

Every engineer must master at least the basics of graphics, sketching, and modeling--both freehand and computer-assisted.

Whatever your artistic talents, these books will give you the skills you need to develop your visualization skills and right methods to draw as a proffesional engineer.

So I will recommand to read and study at least one of book those authors.

This book is written by Prof.Emeritus James H.Earle

For me is the best Author in teaching books for engineering design graphics .

With books of James H.Earle we became more practical in field of engineering graphics.

This book is very practical in engineering graphics also associated with AutoCAD.

For the passionated of Autodesk Inventor the books of James D.Bethune are the best on world .

Engineering Graphics 8th-edition is written by legends of Technical Drawings in World.

I haven't anything to say more about it.

So I think these books have a role in basic education of engineering design graphics for students and mechanical engineers .
But we can't forget this. "The computer graphics is a primary-medium but RULES REMAIN RULES."

Drawing CBORE Hole 3D in AutoCAD

Let's Draw 3D CBORE Hole in AutoCAD .

Look the 2D views.

Seeing dimension the top and front view we'll drawing it in 3D.
First we draw the top view just in below image.

Now we should extrude the box and smalls cylinders with a height -12.
and the other circles should extrude with a height -4. See the image below.

Now type the Subtract command by your methods and click first the rectangular extruded.Then cylinders and so you draw CBORE Holes.
